Ohio Northern's Sports Photography

I have been looking for a job on campus for a while, recently here I reached out to Tim Glon, the Director of Sports Information for Ohio Northern University. He was excited for me to help since he has been so short staffed as of late, so short staffed that he threw me in as a sports photographer covering both the mens and women's basketball games just two days later!

I had very little experience with taking pictures, let alone actual sports photography, but it was a job, and I got to be around sports, so I told Mr. Glon that I'm up for the job. Little did I know how much I loved doing sports photograhy, to be honest, I believe it may be my new favorite hobby.

I walked into the girls basketball game first at 2pm this weekend, I was nervous to say the very least but very quickly I started to have a great time. The girls basketball team took on Marietta, and while it was an extremely close game, the polar bears came out on top!

Below is just a couple of the pictures I took from that game, and while they may not be the best. It was a great learning experience and I can't wait to do it again.

Next was the mens basketball game, playing against Marietta as well, but the mens basketball team for Marietta was also ranked #6 in the country. Right away Marietta took a big lead and never gave it back to the polar bears, it seemed like Marietta was shooting lights out from the 3-point-line. Sadly the game didn't end in the same fashion as the women's game, the mens basketball team lost by a decent margin, but they kept it competitive to say the very least.

Below is the Link to see some of the Mens Basketball pictures.

2nd Week of Sophomore Spring

This week in our Principals of Social Media class, we glossed over the first chapter in class, our assigned reading was for the following chapter.

-----

While I thought this chapter was going to be boring, considering we were still going over the basics. There was some genuinely helpful tips. I learned a good bit from this last chapter, many of this was generally known information, but I'll share some of the more interesting findings in chapter 2.

  1. The chapter discusses LinkedIn, every person in business knows about LinkedIn, but I did not know how insanely popular the app is worldwide! Not only is it the worlds largest professional network, but LinkedIn is used in over 200 countries. To add on, over 740 million people use this app!
  2. Another interesting tip I found on the app is that it suggests people choose which accounts are more personal and which ones are more professional, which at first seems like a obvious thing, but this isn't something many of those involved in business tend to do anymore.
  3. One last interesting piece of information I found is that they suggest you make your social media profiles private? I was always told in high school by my football coach that you should make all your social medias public, that way it shows that you have nothing to hide, which made sense at the time.
So far I have been enjoying all my classes, and while I have an extended workload this spring, I'm ready for the challenge and excited to get to learn more about business.

One class that has been surprisingly interesting is my principals of marketing class. I have always been interested in the psychology of people and how they work, and so far we have talked about it a few times.

Football lifting also has started this week and man... I'm extremely sore, its even kinda hard to go downstairs. Even then, it was fun to get back to lifting and getting to be around some more of my teammates.

First Day of Sophomore Spring

Its almost crazy to think I'm halfway through my college career. My name is Joshuah Andrews, most people just call me Josh though, I attend Ohio Northern University, and the mascot is the Polar Bears, which is what gave me the idea for the name the Bear Cave.

I'll be covering my weeks as a college student athlete, as I play football for my University. Whether you're reading this because you're bored, interested or a high schooler thinking about college, I hope you enjoy this and get something out of it.

This is my 4th semester at the university, it feels like yesterday when I first moved into my dorm. My parents were right when they said, "the older you get, the faster time flies by."

---------------

Its the end of the second day of classes, and I'm glad to say I believe it's going to be a great semester. All my professors have been really down to earth. I'm not only looking forward to learning a lot this semester, but also to try to take on creating a blog, and seeing where it takes me. While creating a blog is just part of my Principals of Social Media class, I am extremely interested to see where this goes.

Mimic Social

For the final week of the semester, we have to write about the social media sim we had to complete, Mimic Social. This was a social media s...
